To set the general program preferences for Ameol, go to the Settings menu and select Preferences. The 'Preferences' dialogue box is divided into seven tab pages - General, Reading, Editor, Viewer, Attachments, Purge, Spelling and Browser. To get more help on any of the options that appear in these pages use the Ameol help file and search for the name of the option. GeneralThis tab page contains a range of overall options for Ameol. ReadingThis page allows you to control how Ameol responds as you are reading and moving through the messages in your message database. EditorThis page gives options that control the editor dialogues used to create email messages, newsgroup articles and Conference messages. ViewerThis page gives options for the Message Window. The Display Columns list at the top of this page shows the default settings for the columns shown. You can also set options for the thread lines that are shown and the quote delimiting characters used. At the bottom of this page you can opt to display the picture or mugshot of a message author when one of their messages is current in the Message Window. To set up the mugshots, click the Edit Mugshots button and link the pictures that you have to the author names that appear in messages. You can get pictures of CIX users from the mugshots conference. AttachmentsThis pages allows you to control the sending and receiving of email and Usenet news attachments. PurgeThis page allows you to set the default purge options for the folders in your message base. SpellingYou can set options for the spelling checker using this page. You can manage the custom dictionaries used by the spelling checker at the bottom of this page. BrowserThis page lets you associate a world wide web browser with Ameol. When you come across a world wide web address (URL) within any message in Ameol, you can simply click on it to start your web browser and point it at the address that you clicked on. This also allows you to make Ameol your default Email and/or News reader.
